Reassessment of blood culture-negative endocarditis: its profile is similar to that of blood culture-positive endocarditis.
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Left-sided infective endocarditis with blood culture-negative has been associated with delayed diagnosis, a greater number of in-hospital complications and need for surgery, and consequently worse prognosis. The aim of our study was to review the current situation of culture-negative infective endocarditis. METHODS We analyzed 749 consecutive cases of left-sided in...
متن کاملBlood culture-negative endocarditis
Blood culture-negative endocarditis (BCNE) may represent up to 70% of all endocarditis cases, depending on series. From 2001 to 2009, we implemented in our laboratory a multimodal diagnostic strategy for BCNE that included systematized testing of blood, and when available, valvular biopsy specimens using serological, broad range molecular, and histopathological assays. A causative microorganism...
متن کاملBlood Culture–Negative Endocarditis, Morocco
We investigated the microorganisms causing blood culture-negative endocarditis (BCNE) in Morocco. We tested 19 patients with BCNE by serologic methods, molecular methods, or both and identified Bartonella quintana, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus equi, and Streptococcus oralis in 4 patients. These results highlight the role of these zoonotic agents in BCNE in Morocco.

Streptococci in patients who received previous antibiotic treatment and infection of the right heart and specifically on pace makers. The diagnostic strategy of BCNIE starts by serological testing of fastidious agents. At the minimum Coxiella burnetii and Bartonella should be tested. A single serum is sufficient, as endocarditis is a chronic disease associated with high level IgG antibodies. Q ...
متن کاملBlood culture-negative infective endocarditis with thalassemia and neurological complication: A dangerous combination
Background: Infective endocarditis (IE) is a life-threatening systemic disease that mostly affects people with valvular heart disease, prosthetic valves, or intracardiac devices. Infective endocarditis is a dangerous cardiac involvement in thalassemia patients. Thus, a multidisciplinary approach is important to provide efficient and effective therapy. Case presentation: A 31-year-old man cam...
